Tarkine Pieman River Cruise & Cradle Mountain



Pick up Launceston 8:00am
Return Hobart  6:000pm (approximately)

Day 1

  • We will make across to Cradle Mountain via some small country villages as in Westbury and Deloraine where we can stop off at the  Silk and Yarn Centre before driving through to  Sheffield the Town of Murals.
  • On our way we will visit 41 Degrees south salmon & Ginsing Farm where you can taste some of their fine smoked salmon and pate. If you wish we can also visit The Three Willows Boutique Winery a family run vineyard. We will then stop in at the Chudleigh Honey Farm for some honey tasting before visiting SILK and a small silk worm farm plus taste some home made fudge of all different types you could think of.
  • Next stop will be Sheffield Town of Murals before travelling onto Cradle Mountain.
  • Your night's accommodation will be The Cradle Mountain.

Day  2

  • Today you can enjoy a short walk at Dove lake or the 2- 3 hour walk around it. There is also a shorter walk for those who wish, called the Enchanted Forest.
  • A visit to Gustov Wandorfer's museum founder of this national Park back in the early 1900's with another short walk amongst the Giant Pandanii endemic to Tasmania.
  • We will then visit The Discovery Centre with some great exhibitions on throughout the year.
  • Tonight you join a night wildlife tour to see Tasmanian Devils and Wombats in their true environment and if you're lucky you will see  Eastern Spotted Quolls.
  • Your night's accommodation will be The Cradle Mountain.

Day 3

  • Today we will  travel on  to the town of Waratah, an old tin mining town with a beautiful waterfall in its town centre . This is where the mining industry of Tasmania started back in the mid 1800's and also where the discovery of generating electricity was made through the use of water. 
  • There is a great information centre here with some fantastic photography for the early pioneer days.
  • We then travel through Savage River onto Corinna an old gold mining town nestled in pristine rainforest of The Tarkine  on the banks of the majestic Pieman River.
  • Your night's accommodation will be in one of the very comfortable old mining cottages at Corinna.

Day 4

  • Today you  enjoy a trip on the Arcadia II, made of Huon Pine, to the mouth of the Wild Southern Ocean. Enjoy your picnic lunch on board the boat or out on the beach at Pieman Heads
  • During your trip you can enjoy some of the passionate stories told of this area by your skipper and his offsider who will point out all the magnificent Native Trees we have in this area and  about this untouched wilderness of the South West National Park commonly known as The Tarkine.
  • After your trip there is plenty of time to go for a short walk or just sit back and enjoy the tranquility of what Corinna has to offer.
  • Your night's accommodation will be at Corinna.

Day 5

  • Today we will leave Corinna and cross the Pieman River by ferry through the mining towns of Zeehan and Queenstown  “the “Moonscape” as it is referred to.
  • On our way to Derwent Bridge we will stop off at the Nelson Falls for a short rainforest walk and then onto  Derwent Lodge Hotel for lunch before taking  you out to Lake St  Clair National Park for a short walk to Lakes Edge the deepest and highest freshwater lake in Australia.
  • We will visit Greg Duncan's famous Wall in the Wilderness Gallery- the history of the Pioneer Days of Tasmania carved in Huon Pine. A self-taught sculptor there are also some amazing items carved out of iron and some beautiful hand silk paintings on display.
  • We will make our way back to Hobart for your night's accommodation.
