Tasmanian Back to Nature Tour
Wallabies on the beach
We will make our way to Mt Field National Park to view Russell Falls. We will call in at Westerway Raspberry Farm on the way to pick some fruit if you wish. After exploring the area we will have lunch at the park’s café. On our return journey we will make our way to historic Salmon Ponds to view many varieties of trout and salmon. We then drive direct to your night’s accommodation in the beautiful township of Cygnet.
You will have the opportunity to take a short walk through Burton’s Reserve which is a nature reserve home to several species of sea bird. We will then visit Tahune Airwalk to walk high in the canopy of majestic gumtrees and take a guided walk through our iconic Huon Pines. There is the opportunity for a visit to the Wooden Boat Centre at Franklin – the only wooden boat building school in Australia. We will then make our way back to Cygnet for your night’s accommodation.
This morning we will do a short city tour of our capital city, Hobart, before I take you up Mt Wellington (if clear) with panoramic views across the city and beyond. We then head for the east coast of Tasmania. Our first stop is the historic township of Richmond. This village is home to Australia’s oldest bridge still in use, built in 1823, and contains many Georgian style sandstone buildings and interesting shops. We then continue to Sorell Fruit Farm with the opportunity to pick your own fruit. We will visit Spring Beach on our way to your accommodation for the night at Windsong B&B.
Today we will board a ferry to Maria Island. Here you will walk through Darlington’s fascinating collection of preserved convict buildings and view the local wildlife featuring wombats. We then head direct to your night’s accommodation at Bicheno. Tonight you will enjoy a Fairy Penguin Tour (depending on whether the tour is running at that time of year).
This morning we will visit the geological sites called The Gulch and Blowhole, at Bicheno, and stop in at The Lobster Shack before we make our way to Freycinet National Park. Here you can enjoy the Wineglass Bay Lookout walk (approximately 1.5 hours with a steady incline to the summit) and afterwards I will take you up to Cape Tourville for a fabulous view of the Hazards. We will then make our way toward the north west of Tasmania and your accommodation at Deloraine.
Today we visit 41 South Salmon & Ginseng Farm for a free tasting. We can also do a self-guided tour if you wish. We will stop at Melita Honey Farm at Chudleigh for a tasting and viewing of bees at work in a display hive. There is the opportunity of a short walk to a fabulous view at Alum Cliffs Lookout. We will visit Trowunna Wildlife Park to come face-to-face with the Tasmanian Devil, feed kangaroos, and view many other native animals. We will then go underground at Marakoopa Cave to see glow-worms and geological features that have taken thousands of years to produce. We then make our way to your night’s accommodation at Lemonthyme Lodge
This morning we head to Cradle Mountain National Park. We will do the Dove Lake Circuit (approximately 3 hours fairly easy walk). If the weather gods are smiling we will have a spectacular view of the mountain from the well photographed boatshed. We then proceed to Sheffield before heading back to Hobart via the Heritage Highway through Tasmania’s midlands.
